Norman Thomas collection, 1900-1964 (bulk 1954-1964).

Thomas' notes, research material, and draft manuscripts for the history of the Weyerhaeuser Timber Company, Timber and Men. The collection covers a wide range of subjects concerning the timber industry including advertisements, articles, bibliographies, biographies, blueprints, broadcasts, bulletins, committee records, conferences, corporation information, correspondence, ephemera, genealogies, invitations, histories, legislation, maps, meetings, memoranda, memorials, newsletters, newspapers, notes, pamphlets, photographs, reports, statistics, union activities, West Coast Lumber Association records, and Weyerhaeuser branch operation information. Emphasis is placed on Weyerhaeuser's practices in Washington State but Thomas did research on other facets of the company's operations, especially in Minnesota. Collection also includes materials concerning the logging industry in the Pacific Northwest, biographies, railroad companies, and union activities; together with Thomas' records of the founding of Charles Wright Academy in Tacoma, Wash., in 1959.

The Weyerhaeuser Company, founded in 1900 as the Weyerhaeuser Timber Company, is one of the largest forest product companies in the world. Ralph Hidy taught at Wheaton College from 1932 to 1947. He took a leave of absence from 1941-1946 to serve in the U.S. Army intelligence force based in Boston.
